If you are in Korea, one thing you must get is driver's license. Driver's license is important because It helps you get job, as I said in the previous post.
So I will introduce how to get driver's license in Korea!
First, you need to go to the acadamy to get a driver license. This is because there are driver license academies that explain all about how it goes on, and even helps you take classes and take tests!ย
So I recommend you to find academy that can help you assist you to take both class and tests.
Now, I will explain what the test looks like.
In Korea there are 3 types of tests you need to pass to get a driver's license. Written Test, Driving Skills Test, and Road Test. For the written test, you need to go to the exam place to take it. It is a type of CBT test, which is held in computer. Driving Skills Test and Road Test can be held both in academies and exam place. I highly recommend you to go to the academy that assists you take tests in their academy. This is because it takes time to make yourself skillful before you take a test and the test fee is pretty expensive.
Now I will tell you the full process of of taking the test.ย
1. Listen to Traffic Safety Educationย
You can get this class in 2 types of languages: Korean or English. Since you cannot apply it online, you need to apply it offline. Or, if you get assistence of the academy, they will do it for you. You just need to follow the instruction. This info has a ppt and book. You can request it before listening to the class in English version.
2. Write Application Form & Health Check
After you finish it, you can write the application form. You need to take your residence card with you with ID Photo that is taken in recent 6 months. After that, you need to take medical exam first. It is to check your vision and other basic body. If you are taking Class 1 License / Special Vehicle License / Large Vehicle License test, you need to pay 7000won, and if you are taking Class 2 License /other license test, you need to pay 6000won.
3. Take Written Test
After doing 1 and 2, you will have your application paper in your hand that you have passed first 2. Now, you need to take that application, ID photo of you, and your residence card with you to the exam place. You can take it in Korean, English, Chinese, and Vietnamese. You can see your test result as soon as you finish your test. It takes some fee, so I recommend you to study before taking the test.
4. ย Driving Course Testย
After you pass the Written Test, you need to start working on Driving Course Test. One thing you need to remember is that you need to pass this test before 1 year from the day you passed your written test. If you don't you need to start all over again. For this test, because the the order can talk in Korean and English, you can choose the language.
This test also requires you the application paper and your residence card. So I recommend you to take it with you.ย
5. Get Practice License
After you pass 4, you can get your practice license. Because the next test is On-Road Driving Exam, you have to drive on road and you need a license that you are allowed to drive. When you are driving, youalways need to have this practice license with you while you are practicing.
You can get it either in the academy or the exam place.
6. On-Road Driving Exam
This test also requires you the application paper and your residence card. So I recommend you to take it with you.
7. ย Get Driver's licenseย
Now it is done! It takes some weeks to get your new license!
Oh. One thing to say is that if you are going to stay under 90 days, you cannot get a driving license.
