🧑‍🏫Main Expressions🧑‍🏫

1. 부모 (Bumo)

2. 부모님 (Bumon-nim)

3. 어버이날 (Eobeoi-nal)

In Korea, May 8th is Parent's day.

I have heard that some countries celebrate Mother's day or Father's day.

Korea's parent's day is similar as that. Korean children celebrate and give presents with some events.

So this week's word will be parents, 부모 in Korean.

Parents in Korean is said as "bumo" or "bumonnim."

Because Korean use the honorific,  the original word is "bumo", and honoific word is "bumonnim."

Putting "-nim" in front of words that is a type of person means giving respect to that person.

Also, "bumo" does not have plural expression, so you just need to write "bumo".

Now I will write the expressions that can be used. It can be hard to follow, but you can just memorize it as one term.

[Words of the Week]

부모 (Bumo) [부모]

: It means parents. It is a noun.

"bu" means father, and "mo" means mother.

If you are new in Korean, you can just put this word into a sentence in your language like this

 - I visited bumonnim(부모님)'s home yesterday.

 - How is your bumonnim(부모님)?

I put this word in an english sentence because I only know English. I hope you can use it for fun.

[Expressions of the week]

This time, it will be not in sentence. Instead, it will show new words using "부모."

Expression1: Grandparents

조부모 (jo-bumo)

: [조부모] grandparents. Grandfather and grandmother. "jo(조)" means grand in English.

Expression2: Parent-in-law

시부모(Si-bumo)

: [시부모] Because Korea was group society in the past, Korean are familiar with parent-in-law. So they had to call their parent-in-law easily, and put the word "si" in front of parents(부모). Especially, 시부모 means parents of husband.

Expression3: Foster parents

양부모(yang-bumo)

: [양부모] Foster parents. "양(yang)" means foster. This word is called from a child to parents who raised that children, but not gave birth to a child.
