Today, I would like to learn about D-2-7 visas that allow you to study in Korea and get a job at the same time.
The D-2-7 visa is a work-study-linked study visa that benefits government-invited scholarship students. In particular, it is a system that benefits permanent residency visas with F-5 visas.
To know exactly this, we also need to know about GKS, or the government-invited foreign student system. We will find out about this in the next post, and today we will learn about the benefits and conditions of the D-2-7 visa.
1. Subject to D-2-7 Visa
Students selected by the National Institute of International Education of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea in various types of scholarship systems that manage "foreigners studying in Korea" and "Koreans studying abroad."
2. Benefits for applying for an E-7 visa
Marking scholarship students on government-based job search sites such as Worknet.
Employment barriers are eased through the exemption of employment conditions of domestic citizens (limited to the ratio of foreigners to domestic citizens) by employment companies.
3. Benefits for applying for F-2-7 points-based resident visa
10 points (5 points for domestic PhD holders) regardless of the method of application (change after more than 1 year of work E-7; apply directly with a master's degree or higher).
→ It is possible to obtain twice the score of doctoral degree holders without proceeding with a doctoral program, and indirectly benefit from age at the time of application.
4. Benefits for applying for F-5 permanent residence visa
- Doctorate holder: Exemption from income requirement screening when obtaining a PhD with a visa.
- Holders of a bachelor's or master's degree in high-tech: Foreign students working for Korean companies with a D-2-7 visa can apply for a permanent residency visa even if they have no income above GNI after a certain period of time.
- F-2-7 Visa Holder: Obtain an F-2-7 visa from a D-2-7 visa, and apply for an F-5 permanent residence visa three years later, exempt from the income requirements of double the GNI per person. Even if you earn less than GNI per person, you can apply for an F-5 permanent residence visa.

신청 방식(E-7 1년 이상 근무 후 변경, 석사 이상의 학위를 가지고 직접 신청)에 상관 없이 10점의 점수 부여(국내 박사학위 소지자의 경우 5점).
→ 박사과정을 진행하지 않고도 박사학위 소지자의 2배의 점수를 획득 가능, 신청시 연령에서도 간접적 이득을 봄.
4. F-5 영주권 비자 신청시 혜택
- 박사학위 소지자: D-2-7 비자를 소지한 상태로 박사학위 취득시, 소득 요건 심사 면제.
- 첨단기술분야 학사 혹은 석사 이상의 학위 소지자: D-2-7비자를 소지하면서 한국 회사에서 일하고 있는 외국인 유학생은 일정 기간이 지나면 GNI 이상의 소득이 없더라도 영주권 비자 신청 가능.
- F-2-7 비자 소지자: D-2-7 비자에서 F-2-7 비자를 취득하고, 3년 후 F-5 영주권 비자 신청시 1인 GNI의 2배의 소득요건 조건 면제. 1인 GNI 이하의 소득이라도 F-5 영주권 비자 신청 가능.
