Today, I would like to talk about the college entrance of foreigners with E-9 and E-10 visas.
As the system was changed at the end of the year 23, I hope it will serve as a springboard for many E-9 visa holders to seek a change to E-7 visa through university entrance.
1. Conditions for E-9 and E-10 visa holders to enter university
- Existing: E-9 visa holders cannot enter university
- NEW: Both E-9 and E-10 visa holders can enter university without separate declaration or permission
- There is no limit to the level of education at the university you go to
2. E-9, E-10 visa holders are prohibited from entering university
- Retirement and unauthorized absence from existing workplaces are prohibited
- It is impossible to permit activities other than the status of residence for D-2 study visa while holding an E-9 visa
- Prohibition of other acts that fall under the grounds of E-9 visa extinction
3. Change from E-9 Visa to D-2 Visa
- As before, it is not possible to change from E-9 visa to D-2 visa in Korea
- Upon expiration of E-9 visa during study, application/approval of D-2 visa is required after departure
- The process of issuing a D-2 visa is the same as that of issuing a new visa
4. Precautions
- New labor contracts need to be prepared in case of changes in work content due to college entrance
- In general training, new issuance to D-4-1 visa and D-2 visa is required after E-9 visa expires when entering university
To sum up, E-9 and E-10 visa holders do not need a separate application/permission for university and graduate school, but you should note that you have to leave Korea temporarily and that it is your responsibility to work at the same time.

- 진학하는 대학의 교급에는 제한이 없음
2. E-9, E-10 비자 소지자 대학 진학 시 금기 사항
- 기존 사업장에서의 퇴직, 무단 결근 등은 금지
- E-9 비자 소지 상태에서 D-2 유학비자의 체류자격 외 활동 허가는 불가능
- 기타 E-9 비자 소멸 사유에 해당하는 행위 금지
3. E-9 비자에서 D-2 비자로의 변경
- 기존과 동일하게, 국내에서 E-9비자에서 D-2비자로의 변경은 불가능
- 학업 중 E-9 비자 만료 시, 출국 후 D-2 비자 신청/승인 필요
- D-2 비자 발급 과정은 신규 비자 발급의 그것과 동일
4. 유의사항
- 대학 진학으로 인한 근로 내용의 변경시 근로 계약서 신규 작성 필요
- 일반 연수에서 대학 입학시 E-9 비자 소멸 후 D-4-1비자, D-2 비자로의 신규 발급 필요
정리하자면, E-9과 E-10 비자 소지자의 경우 대학과 대학원을 위한 별도의 신청/허가는 필요 없으나, 국내를 일시적으로 떠나야 한다는 점, 대학과 직장의 병행은 본인 책임이라는 점을 유의하셔야 겠습니다.
