There may be various answers, such as economic difficulties and cultural differences, but I think it's most scary to be caught violating the Immigration Control Act.
Since there are many related legal provisions in the Immigration Control Act, foreigners may think that they have violated it without realizing it.
Recently, criminal organizations that use the psychology of foreigners to cause voice phishing crimes are on the rise.
Today, we would like to learn about their characteristics and how to deal with them.
1. the characteristics of a criminal
- Disguised as an immigration officer
- Ask about your personal ID number (resident registration number, alien registration number, etc.) and bank account, claiming that you should be investigated for violating the Immigration Control Act
- Notify content by phone or text
- Threatening that if not resolved immediately, there will be deportations and disadvantages immediately
2. Fact
- Immigration offices do not contact foreigners by phone or text (using Kakao Talk official channel and mail, HiKorea)
- The immigration office already knows the foreigner's registration number and has the account number for some foreigners → It can be checked through the database without having to ask foreigners
- Disposition by the immigration office provides a 'deferred period' → Immediate execution applies only to violent criminals such as narcotics
3. How to deal with it
- Do not give your alien registration number unless you are a family member or a person who is obligated to provide it for business purposes
- Don't let me know your account number unless you need to receive money
- Upon receiving the call or text message, call the HiKorea site or the Ministry of Justice's immigration office (02-2110-3000) to check and report directly

1. 범죄자의 특징
- 출입국 관리소 직원으로 위장
- 출입국 관리법 위반으로 조사를 받아야 한다고 주장하며, 개인 증명 번호(주민등록번호, 외국인등록번호 등) 및 은행 계좌에 대해 질의
- 전화 혹은 문자로 내용을 통보
- 즉시 해결하지 않으면, 바로 강제 추방 및 불이익이 있을 것이라 협박
2. 사실
- 출입국관리소는 전화나 문자로 외국인에게 연락하지 않음(카카오톡 공식 채널 및 메일, HiKorea 사용)
- 출입국관리소는 이미 외국인의 등록번호를 알고 있고, 계좌 번호도 일부 외국인의 경우 데이터를 가지고 있음 → 굳이 외국인에게 물어보지 않고도 데이터베이스를 통해 확인 가능
- 출입국관리소의 처분은 ‘유예 기간’을 제공함 → 즉시 집행은 마약류 등 강력범죄 사범에 대해서만 적용
3. 대처 방법
- 가족이나 본인이 업무상으로 제공해야 할 의무가 있는 자가 아니면, 외국인 등록번호를 알려주지 말 것
- 계좌번호는 돈을 받을 일이 있는 것 아니면 알려주지 말 것
- 해당 전화 혹은 문자 수신 시, HiKorea 사이트 혹은 법무부 출입국관리사무소(02-2110-3000)로 전화해 직접 확인 및 신고
