The nationality screening period in October has been newly announced.
Since this announcement was related to naturalization and nationality recovery, F-2 and F-5 visa holders should pay special attention.

1. Definition of the review period
- The usual period from the date of application to the final permission or disallowing decision, which may vary from person to person
- There may be changes in the screening period due to reasons such as KIIP and interview screening subject or acceptance time, fact-finding (re-investigation) required, supplementary documents, and opinions of related agencies (crime, investigation experience, background check)
2. Examination period
- Marriage naturalization: about 19 months (however, about 10 months if simplified in consideration of marriage period, family type, child rearing, etc.)
- Special naturalization: 19 months for interview subjects (recovery of nationality/child of naturalizer. Adopted minor) and about 8 months for interview exemption (person under the age of 15)
- Simple naturalization: A person whose father or mother was a citizen of the Republic of Korea / Adopted as an adult: 19 months; A person born in the Republic of Korea: about 12 months
- General naturalization: A person who has lived in Korea for at least five years and holds a permanent residence status (F-5): approximately 19 months
- Nationality Restoration: Nationality Restoration Applicant: About 7 months
3. Precautions
- In the case of naturalized persons, additional review period may be required if there are reasons such as long-term departure or failure to submit documents requesting supplementation
- In the case of a person who recovers nationality, if he/she intends to make a pledge on non-exercise of foreign nationality, he/she is required to enter Korea at the time of the examination
- Even after the naturalization examination, the citizenship of the Republic of Korea can be obtained only by attending the national oath and the ceremony for presenting the certificate of nationality

심사기간의 정의

KIIP 및 면접심사 대상여부 또는 합격시기, 실태조사(재조사) 필요 여부, 보완서류, 관계기관 의견조회(범죄･수사경력, 신원조회) 등의 이유로 인해 심사 기간에 변동이 있을 수 있음
심사기간
혼인귀화: 약 19개월(단, 혼인기간, 가족형태, 자녀 양육 여부 등을 고려해 간소화되는 경우 약 10개월)
특별귀화: 면접대상(국적회복/귀화자의 자녀. 미성년인 양자)의 경우 19개월, 면접면제(만 15세 미만인 자)의 경우 약 8개월
간이귀화: 부 또는 모가 대한민국의 국민이었던 사람/성년이 되어 입양된 사람:19개월, 대한민국에서 출생한 사람: 약 12개월
일반귀화: 대한민국에서 5년 이상 거주하고 영주권 자격(F-5)를 소지한 사람: 약 19개월
국적 회복: 국적회복 신청자: 약 7개월
유의사항
귀화자의 경우 장기 출국, 보완 요청 서류 미제출 등 사유가 있는 경우 심사기간이 추가로 소요될 수 있음
국적회복자의 경우 외국국적불행사 서약을 하려는 경우 국적회복허가 심사결정 시점에 국내 입국 필요
귀화심사 이후에도 국민 선서 및 국적증서 수여식에 참석하여야 대한민국 국적을 취득할 수 있음
