As a result, the government is recruiting "youth interns" every vacation to ensure the job competitiveness of young people and foreign students and to solve the shortage of manpower in public institutions.
The youth internship project is a project to support practical capacity building and employment connection of young job seekers by operating innovative curriculum through collaboration with companies and providing practical internship courses.
In fact, the purpose is to enable the immediate cost of living and investment for the future at the same time through job brokering in companies or public institutions.
Nevertheless, many companies have not selected foreign youth internships until then, but the scope has been expanded by government policies from 2023, giving foreign youth more opportunities to apply for youth internships.
In the case of foreign workers, they will be in charge of production or administrative assistance in public institutions. It will be of great help to obtain an E-7 or E-9 visa after graduation, and even if they return to their home country, they will fully support them to get a better job based on their experience in Korea.
Foreign students who want to apply for the youth internship program must first obtain a "permission for activities outside of their status of residence". Please refer to the information posted in the past.
After that, you need to find a youth intern employment institution that suits your career or major and suits your region.
You can check these announcements on 'ALIO', a public institution recruitment system.
After that, you will fill out your personal resume and self-introduction letter, and the interview and acceptance will be determined according to the application process.
Typically, you will go through an internship course of three to six months, and you will be engaged in internship activities protected by the Labor Standards Act.
Of course, it is not without restrictions for foreign students. First of all, applications are not possible for internships on a yearly basis, and applications are not possible for jobs restricted from foreign employment. In particular, applications are available for recruitment-linked internships (internships that give job opportunities to those who are active immediately after internship activities are over), but they are excluded from recruitment.
Nevertheless, it is considered a great advantage to be able to do relatively easy work in a safe workplace, such as receiving additional points for employment in the relevant public institution or being exempted from document screening.

그래서 실질적으로 외국인 학생들이 할 수 있는 서포터즈는 온라인 서포터즈 혹은 자신의 진로와 전혀 관계 없는 초단기 서포터즈가 많습니다. 이는 기업에서도 직무관련성이 없다는 이유로 고평가 받지 못하고, 가장 중요한 업무 이력을 쌓지 못하는 원인이 되죠.
이에, 정부에서는 청년과 외국인 유학생의 일자리 경쟁력을 보장하고 공공기관 인력 부족 문제를 해결하기 위해 매 방학마다 ‘청년 인턴’을 모집, 한 학기동안 활동할 수 있도록 지원하고 있습니다.
청년 인턴 사업은 기업과 협업을 통해 혁신적인 교육과정을 운영하고 실무중심의 인턴십 과정을 제공하여 청년 구직자의 실질적인 역량강화 및 취업연계를 지원하는 사업입니다.
실제로 기업 혹은 공공기관에의 일자리 중개를 통해, 당장의 생활비와 미래를 위한 투자를 동시에 할 수 있게 하는 것이 그 목적이죠.
그럼에도 많은 기업들은 이때까지 외국인 청년인턴을 뽑고 있지 않았지만, 2023년부터 정부 정책으로 범위가 확대, 외국인 청년들도 청년인턴 사업에 지원할 수 있는 폭이 넓어졌습니다.
외국인 인력의 경우 생산직 혹은 공공기관에서의 사무·행정보조 업무를 맡게 되는데요. 졸업 이후 E-7비자 혹은 E-9 비자를 취득하는데에 큰 도움이 될 것이며, 혹여 본국으로 돌아가더라도 한국에서의 경력을 바탕으로 조금 더 나은 일자리를 얻을 수 있도록 충분하게 지원해주고 있습니다.

그럼에도 이후 비자 발급시 해당 공공기관 취업에 가산점을 받거나, 서류 전형이 면제되는 등의 이익은 충분하고, 다른 아르바이트와의 겸직이 가능하며(단, 인턴십에 영향이 없는 한에서 주 10시간으로 제한), 상대적으로 쉬운 업무를 안전한 직장에서 할 수 있다는 점은 큰 메리트로 사료됩니다.
